Owiny Sigoma Band is the result of the musical encounter and the interchange of ideas between musicias based in London and in Kenya. With the support of the platform Art of Protest and aiming to recover and promoting Kenian traditional sounds, an expedition composed by: Jesse Hackett (keyboards), Louis Hackett (bass guitar), Sam Lewis (guitar), Chris Morphitis (bouzouki | guitar) & Tom Skinner (percusion) traveled to Nairobi in 2009 to develop a workshop with the local artists Joseph Nyamungu & Charles Owoko. This collaboration crystalized in 4 tracks which called the attention of Gilles Peterson and, after being signed to the Brownswood Recordings family, the londoners were sent again to Nigeria. This time, the collaboration resulted in the álbum ‘Owiny Sigoma Band – Owiny Sigoma Band’ (Brownswood Recordings, 2011).

If you like, stop by Theo Parrish’s remix of OSB’s ‘The Wire’ and check the 12″ ‘Tafsiri Sound’.

And last but not least, we would love you to listen to this OSB mixtape ( by Tom Skinner & Jesse Hackett). An afro-groove selection that has been distributed as a limited edition cassette in the Worldwide Festival 2011.
